Chat
Not every question is a project. /chat is a conversation: it can look things up and read what you point it at, and it cannot change anything.
akili-code chat # from a shell
/chat # from inside a session
What it can and cannot do
| Search the web and read pages | yes |
| Read files and documents in the current folder | yes |
| Write a file, run a command, touch git | no |
| Send mail, save to Drive | no |
The lock is the tool list, not a sentence in a prompt: nothing that writes, runs, sends or touches an account is offered to a conversation, so there is no phrasing that reaches it. A test asserts every tool chat carries passes the same read-only check the rest of the agent uses, so widening it by accident fails the build.
Reading is allowed on purpose. βWhat does this project do?β is a question, not a task β and it deserves an answer from the actual files rather than a guess from the folder name.
When the conversation becomes work
You research something, reach a conclusion, and now want it made. Don't retype it:
/work write that up as a 12-week plan with weekly deliverables
/work, /build and /motion all take an optional task β they switch and start. Coming from chat, the last few exchanges travel with you as context: the decision, not the transcript. Pages it fetched along the way are left behind, because they were how you got there, not where you arrived.
The conversation is only brought into an empty run. If a project already has work underway, dropping a chat into the middle of it would be context arriving unannounced.
Moving between projects
/cwd where you are
/cd ~/work/other-app go somewhere else (also /open, /project)
/cd .. relative paths work
Switching saves the current project's session first, then resumes whatever the other folder had β it tells you how many messages it picked up, or that the folder is new.
Starting fresh
/new (or /clear) clears the project run and the conversation, deletes the saved transcripts, and drops the plan, then tells you how many messages went.
Small things
- When it ends with a question, answer with
yorn. /copyputs the last answer on the clipboard in its original Markdown. On Linux this needswl-clipboardorxclip; if neither is there, the message names the exact command to install one.- Answers are rendered β headings, bold, lists, tables and code blocks β rather than shown as raw Markdown.
